Google: Do Not To Worry About Unique IP Addresses Or C-Blocks

You often see SEOs or hosting companies recommending you get your own IP address and keep your web sites separate across different IP blocks, this way you don't fall in with a bad neighborhood. Truth is, there is very little truth to that.

In the rare case Google may ban a whole free host or co.cc path but it is incredibly rare.

John Mueller of Google answered this also in a Google Hangout at the 24 minute mark. The question was:

All of our group’s websites share the same C-block. Can cannibalization occur between different websites sharing the same hosting? Can site B's ability to rank be impaired by the fact that site A is trying to rank for the same set of keywords?

Is that a problem?

The answer was "no."

No, absolutely not. It is perfectly fine.

That is not something where you need to artificially buy IP address blocks to just shuffle things around. And especially if you are on a CDN, then you will end up on an IP block with other companies as well. Or if you are on shared hosting then these things happen. That is not something that you need to artificially move around.

I love how he knows why SEOs think up on why they want to do it and then smashes it.
